AI, Machine Learning, & Cybersecurity: What Can Companies Do

  • June 6, 2019
  • admin

With cyber threats growing in complexity, this world increasingly reliant on computers cannot afford to lag in security. One way we can sure we’re always up-to-date is through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in our cybersecurity solutions.

AI and ML enable cybersecurity experts to scour the cyber terrain for threats faster than any human could. The capacity of AI and ML systems to analyze large amounts of data and look at patterns enables them to deploy security solutions quickly.

The way we work with cybersecurity couldn’t ever hope to keep up with the ability of AI and ML to adapt to the quickly-changing threats as well as their wide offering of solutions. If this is the case, why aren’t we using AI as much as we probably should?

Training ML systems requires a large amount of unbiased, accurate data in order to be reliable. In order to do this, a large amount of money to avail of tremendous computing power is needed. On top of all these, to amass a large amount of data will take some time.

Cybersecurity cannot be stalled for a long time, though. So for now, what can companies do? Naveen Joshi, CEO of Allerin, an international software solutions provider, suggests some measures that can be undertaken:

  • Hiring experienced cybersecurity professionals with niche skills.
  • Testing systems and networks for vulnerabilities and fixing them preemptively.
  • Using URL filtering and reputation-based security services to block malicious links that may contain viruses or malware.
  • Implementing firewalls and malware scanners to block malware and viruses.
  • Paying close attention to the outgoing traffic and apply egress filters to restrict outgoing traffic.
  • Analyzing cyber threats and security protocols to gain informative insights that would help create a more secure approach toward cyber attacks.
  • Updating existing systems in the organization to integrate modern technologies such as AI and machine learning.
  • Conducting regular audits of hardware and software to monitor the health of the systems must be among the top priorities.
  • Training employees and educating them about cyber attacks.
  • Incentivizing and promoting the development of innovative applications.

In order to protect users, organizations should start consciously developing their AI and ML capabilities to fully unleash the potential of these technologies. Whenever we’re talking cyber security, no one can really afford to remain complacent.
